Frequently asked questions
How do I delete my account and my data?
Open Squirrel Brain, go to Settings > Account > Delete Account, and confirm. This permanently deletes your cloud data, turns off your API keys and stops push notifications to your phone. Deletion of stored data is completed within 30 days. Deleting the app alone does not delete your account. If you cannot open the app, email us from the address tied to your account and we will delete it for you.
Do I have to pay for anything? What about purchases and subscriptions?
Squirrel Brain is free to use right now. There is nothing to purchase, no trial to start and nothing to restore. Subscriptions may be offered later; if that happens we will say so clearly in the app and on this page first, and billing and cancelling would be handled by Apple through your iPhone's Settings > your name > Subscriptions. If you see a Squirrel Brain charge you do not recognize, email us.
My reminder did not ring or the call did not come. What should I check?
- The ringer switch is on and the volume is up. On silent, reminders vibrate or stay quiet; this is how iOS works.
- Notifications are allowed: iPhone Settings > Notifications > Squirrel Brain. Turn on Time Sensitive Notifications so alerts can come through a Focus.
- Your Focus or Do Not Disturb allows Squirrel Brain.
- In the app, Settings > Silence all calls is off, and the reminder has "Call me" switched on.
- Low Power Mode and Airplane mode can delay calls. Open the app once after a restart or reinstall so it can re-arm your reminders. If it still fails, email us with the reminder's time and what happened.
What permissions does Squirrel Brain ask for, and why?
Everything is optional and asked only when you use the feature. You can change any of them in iPhone Settings > Squirrel Brain.
- Microphone: dictation, voice notes, the "why did you save this?" box, Running Note, meeting recording and live calls with your squirrel.
- Camera and Photos: snap or choose a receipt, flyer, schedule or screenshot to turn into reminders.
- Calendar: read your events to suggest early reminders and add events you dictate.
- Notifications: reminders, alarms and the morning brief.
- Location (while using the app): adds a place to what you capture.
- Contacts: only adds a "Squirrel" contact so the call screen has a face. We do not read your contacts.
- Face ID: protects your API key.
Is Squirrel Brain really calling my phone number?
No. The call comes from inside the app (it uses the iPhone call screen but no phone number or carrier minutes). You can decline it, and you can turn calls off in Settings.
Do I need an account?
No. Sign in with Apple is optional, but without it your notes and photos stay only on this phone. If you delete the app or lose the phone they cannot be recovered.
How do I get a copy of my data?
Email hello@squirrelbrainapp.com from the address tied to your account and ask for an export. We send your notes, tasks and account data in a machine-readable file (JSON or CSV) within 30 days.
Which AI services see my information?
Your voice, photos and text are processed by AI services through our servers to make the app work. See our Privacy Policy for the full list and what each one receives. We do not sell your data.
Meeting recording
Recording a meeting captures everyone's voice. You are responsible for telling the people in the room and getting their consent where the law requires it.
